Ahead of its official global launch next month, photos of the new 2024 Volvo EM90 minivan have been published online by the MIIT website.
Every car that goes on sale in China must receive the seal of approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and as part of the homologation process for the future model, images are published on the MIIT website before it is launched on the market. In some cases, the car's design is displayed weeks before the actual debut, which will take place on November 12, God willing.
The EM90 is the first small truck from the Swedish company Volvo, owned by the Chinese company Geely, which appeared in a few pictures showing the entire exterior.

As expected, it is easy to realize that the electric minivan that carries the Volvo logo appears to be based on the 2023 Zeekr 009 (its photo is attached within this news) as all the pillars look identical, we can say the same about the position of the side mirrors, door handles and cameras mounted on the car. Fenders. However, the EM90 has a redesigned front end with different headlights to bring the design in line with other Volvo cars. It also eschews the donor car's flashy grille in favor of a body-colored panel with small openings that are supposed to illuminate.
The rear has also been modified to better fit Volvo's image, but you can tell it's the same minivan by the outline of the tailgate and the position of the camera under the license plate. The 2024 Volvo EM90 looks less striking than the Zeekr 009, which we might say is for the better, but each has its own peculiarities. Since this is the Swedish brand's first van, it represents a major departure from the traditional crop of SUVs, sedans and wagons.
There are some preliminary technical specifications to go along with these images. As the information published on the MIIT website indicates, the Volvo van is 5,206 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, and 1,859 mm high. It will be offered with 19- and 20-inch wheels, and this electric vehicle will accommodate 6 people.
According to what was published online, the van has a rear-mounted electric motor with a power of 200 kilowatts, equivalent to 268 hp. However, we must mention that the Zeekr 009 comes with two electric motors with a power of 536 hp and an all-wheel drive system, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Although there's no mention of a battery, the Zeekr 009 packs a lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack from CATL.
